The “Stop the Death Penalty in Egypt” Facebook page run by the Egyptian Commission for Rights and Freedoms (ECRF) has launched a new campaign entitled “Life for Monk Ashʿiyāʾ,” demanding a presidential pardon for Wāʾil Saʿad Tawāḍrūs.  Tawāḍrūs was convicted of murdering Bishop Epiphanius [Epīphaniyyūs], head of St. Macarius Monastery [dayr Abū Maqār], and is scheduled to be executed.  The cassation court upheld his execution but lightened the sentence of another monk convicted in the bishop’s murder, Raymond Rasmī, from death to life in prison.
