The Sheikh of al-Azhar is calling for Arab society to critically read the precepts of Islam saying that it is urgent that Islamic texts be revisited in order to prevent youth from joining militant groups. He is also calling for the drafting of a clear strategy to diminish the lure of extremist ideologies and fanaticism that militant groups spread in the name of Islam.
