The destruction of Sūfī shrines by salafī groups this week has triggered demonstrations in Alexandria and drew warnings by Egypt's Muftī of the Republic 'Alī Jum'ah, who views the attacks as a threat to Muslim unity.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Council for Sūfī Orders formed a fact-finding commission to investigate the attacks, whereas several Sūfī leaders proclaimed to form popular committees to protect Sūfī shrines.

According to 'Abd al-Hādī al-Qasabī, head of the Supreme Council for Sūfī Orders, said attacks on Sūfī mosques have increased since the January 25 revolution.
