Celebrations for Mār-Girgis (Saint George) Day start tomorrow and end on the first day of the Islamic ‘Īd, which is considered by some as a message from the heavens confirming national unity in Egypt. Father Sergius said that this is no coincidence as it happens quite frequently with the Coptic Christmas and Ramadan, for example. He says that it causes Egyptians great happiness to share holidays. The Egyptian government has implemented a comprehensive enhancement of security measures in Luxor where the celebrations are taking place.
