Attendees of Pope Shenouda III’s weekly meeting this week underwent extreme security checks after al-Qā‘idah threatened Egyptian churches. The Pope sat through the meeting surrounded by six security guards. He began the meeting by reading Azhar Grand Shaykh Dr. Ahmad al-Tayyib’s statements condemning the “Sayyidat al-Najāh” church massacre in Iraq and by wishing him the best of health and a speedy recovery. Vice President of Egypt's Evangelical denomination Andrea Zakī also condemned the massacre and said that those responsible falsely attribute themselves to Islam.
