The Islamic Research Academy holds an urgent meeting today to discuss Bishop Bīshūy’s offensive statements about the Qur'ān and Islamic faith. The group says that Azhar Grand Shaykh Dr. Ahmad al-Tayyib is outraged by the statements. Dr. Muhammad Ra‘fat ‘Uthmān claims the reason behind the current sectarian tension is that Copts have been taking offense by the slightest comments and unnecessarily reporting to the Attorney General instead of giving space for dialogue.
