Some Coptic voices argue that citizenship and national unity have deteriorated since the 1952 Revolution. They state that Copts participated effectively in political life before the revolution and that they were elected by Muslims and reached leading positions.

It is only after the revolution that Copts started to be “appointed” in parliament for the first time. In addition, it was marginal ministries that Copts assumed under Nāsir.

The author however does not agree that the revolution has discriminated between Muslims and Copts.
