The status of the Foreign Press Association (FPA) and its board of directors has become illegal since June 6, 2003, which marks the end of a period determined by the law 84, issued on June 6, 2003, for NGOs to bring themselves under the new law.
The current board of directors at the FPA includes one Egyptian out of nine members (eight foreigners). Item 20 of the new NGOs law stipulates that the number of Egyptian members in the board of directors should be proportional to that of the number of foreign members.
