Eastern Christianity suffered from many internal problems. The Church of the Byzantine Empire suspended Eastern denominations. A separate organization for the Eastern churches was established. This led to the weakening of Eastern Christians and the central church authority of the Byzantine Empire as well. That is why when the Muslims conquered Syria and Egypt, the natives welcomed them as they [the Muslim army] would liberate them from the power of Byzantium.
