A contentious debate over civil marriage between Egypt’s churches drew to a close as Orthodox, Catholic, and Evangelical churches agreed not to recognize civil marriage or allow its members to enter into marriages outside of the Church. The churches convened last week to debate a civil marriage proposal submitted by the Transitional Justice Minister that led to the final decision against civil marriages.
