The Coptic Orthodox Church announced today that it will open a new section in the Institute of Coptic Studies to teach «Arab Christian heritage», for the first time, at the beginning of the new academic year 2019/2020, which sparked widespread controversy among Copts on social networking sites, where they split between supporters and opponents arguing it is "an attempt to obliterate Coptic identity and falsify Coptic history," which the Church has denied altogether.
