The American media is castigating Egypt for the decision of Egypt’s Prosecutor General to file criminal charges against eyewitnesses in the police killing of activist Shaīmāʾ al-Sabbāgh. One newspaper said that the method that the General Prosecutor is using to investigate the killing of the activist is focused on the eye witnesses, instead of investigating the policemen accused of killing Shaīmā or the protesters killed in Tahrīr Square. Additionally, the prosecutor is investigating 14 members of the political party that Shaīmāʾ formed. Among the 14 currently being investigated by the Prosecutor General, eyewitnesses to the killing are being prosecuted for participating in an unlicensed protest.
