The Saudi offer to include the Islamist movement into formal politics marked a middle way between the regime’s and the Brotherhood’s political approach. It needs to be understood on the backdrop of improving relations between the Muslim Brotherhood and the gulf monarchy, which seeks political support by Sunni movements to counter the growing political influence of Iran in the region.
