Stephen Cook, employee of the American Ministry of Foreign Relations and specialist in affairs of the Middle East, claims that Erdogan requested Mursī’s release in order to improve Turkish relations with Egypt. However, it is clear that the release of the former Egyptian President is not a realistic possibility. Relations between Cairo and Ankara have changed greatly since the events of the 3^rd July (coup d’état and overthrowing of Mursī) and Erdogan has on more than one occasion denounced the legitimacy of President Sīsī.
