Article summary:

The story of the film “The Athirst [thirsty] Kiss”

is about a second generation Pakistani Muslim who falls in love with an English Catholic girl. I

believe the film’s realistic idea and its courageousness in conveying it is much stronger than

any dialogue between civilizations.

Article full text:

In the recent International Berlin Film Festival in

February, I saw a film directed by an English director Ken Losh, titled “The athirst [thirsty]

Kiss.” The story is about a second generation Pakistani Muslim who falls in love with a Catholic

Christian English girl, but their love is frowned upon by the priest of the Catholic church, as

well as by the Muslim man’s family. At the end of the film, they both agree to be husband and

wife against all odds. I believe the film’s realistic idea and its courageousness in conveying it

is much stronger than any dialogue between civilizations [Editor: I wonder if the author would

have written the same if the woman had been Muslim and the man Christian. Remarkably enough I

have never seen a Muslim writer calling such a combination courageous].
