Rose al-Yūsuf reports that the crisis between the Azhar and the Egypt Peace Lovers Society has escalated.
It says this is because the society, headed by Hānī ‘Azīz, had "jumped onto" the proposal by Dr. Ahmad al-Tayyib, the Grand Imām of the Azhar, for the creation of a joint Muslim-Christian committee to represent both the Azhar and the Coptic Church, which is to be known as the "Family Home."
The dispute began when ‘Azīz invited a number of government ministers and public figures to a meeting that was reported to have been billed as the official launching of the initiative.
“Hānī ‘Azīz did not have the right to announce the launching of the Egyptian Family Home. The first meeting of the preparatory committee of the Family Home will be held at the Azhar next week, in order to select those who will be participants in the Family Home," says the Grand Imām's Councilor Dr. Mahmūd ‘Āzab.
He pointed out that the idea for the initiative was originally formulated by the Azhar and will be officially commenced by the Azhar with the attendance of Grand Imām Dr. Ahmad al-Tayyib and Pope Shenouda III, or whoever may represent him.
[Reviewer: The proposed committee has been named in media reports both as the "Egyptian Family Home" and simply the "Family Home."]
