Clashes renewed between security forces and the locals of the city of Kom Ombo in Aswan Govenorate Friday evening, March 1, in the vicinity of Saint George Church, against the backdrop of the disappearance of a female Muslim school teacher. The clashes, which took place yesterday after the protesters blockaded the church, resulted in the injury of 10 members of the police force, among them the commander of the anti-riot police. The security forces have secured the church and the streets leading to the church and intervened with a number of imāms, persuading locals not to resort to violence and stop the clashes (Mahmūd Malā and ‘Abd al-Rahmān Mahmūd, al-Misrī al-Yawm, Mar. 2, p. 7).
