Christian pilgrims, on the route of the Holy Family, were surprised to discover that the so-called worshipping tree in the Muslim village of Nezlet Abed, near the pilgrimage site at Giebel Al Teir, had been chopped into pieces by local farmers. Local Christians claim the tree was 2000 year old and was one of the sites the Holy Family passed on their way through Egypt. Western pilgrims and other interested visitors put its age at approximately 100 years.
