Our good friend Dr. Maria Haarmann from Misereor has retired. I came to know Dr. Haarmann during the Missio campaign “Dare to Meet the Other” in Aachen in 2004. It was an effort to encourage dialogue between Muslims and Christians in Germany by not remaining within your own social and religious group.

Both Misereor and Missio are great partners of AWR. We provide Misereor and Missio with translations and reports for consultation by many people interested in Muslim-Christian and Arab-West relations.

Dr. Haarmann loves Egypt. She came here for visits and had a deep sincere interest in the work we were carrying out here for creating bridges.

The support of Dr. Haarmann was essential in overcoming one of Arab West Report’s darkest periods that occurred with the loss of our database, and her encouragement was key to allowing us to move on, ultimately instigating the support that has allowed us a full digital make-over since 2014.

Dr. Maria Haarmann has been throughout all of our troubles and changes a great help. It is good to have such friends who also in difficult situations remain on your side. Of course we regret she has left Misereor but we wish her all the best after retirement and of course hopes she will return for visits to Egypt.
